Greetings to our Black Diamond Vermicompost family! We hope this email finds you well and in the shade. Here on the Central Coast of California, the dog days are upon us. We’ve had an extraordinarily pleasant summer thus far, but the thermometer is dialing up. I hope you all are in close proximity to the beach or a lake! After a long day of sweat and toil in the forefront of oak tree dotted hills, golden with dry grass and many square miles of ripening grapes, I love to spend time with family, cook a nourishing meal, and kick up my feet to dig into a book from ACRES USA. Folks, I could not put a bigger endorsement on this publisher and magazine publication. For 50 years, this outfit has been putting the stories and wisdom of ecological and biological centered agriculture/horticulture on paper, so that we are so blessed as to learn from the giants on who’s shoulders we stand. If you have a heart for regenerative agriculture, organic gardening, or whatever it may be - the books in the ACRES USA library are for you. It is wonderful that we have so many resources in podcasting, social media, and video platforms, but it is easy to get lost in the buzz and excitement of whatever is in vogue for the day. You don’t have to get lost in the sauce. Go straight to the pioneers whom paved the way for all of the talking heads and practitioners in the space today. The person you follow in Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok that you learn from, directly or indirectly learned what they are teaching you from the members of the ACRES USA community (and they likely don’t even know it!). When I say that the goldmine of wisdom in the halls of ACRES “university” changed the trajectory of my career and life, there is zero over exaggeration. Here are some books that I particularly recommend: The Farm as an Ecosystem by Jerry Brunetti Science in Agriculture by Arden B.
